Yeah! The fish is really successful! The rose is good too- a little more background information could give it some depth. The top image with the circles is really interesting- very simple, with effective repetition, variation in your vertical lines, really washy muted color palette. The bottom 2 have some good things happening too- again with color and repetition, strong diagonal lines, complementaries with the breaking apart blue has some good potential. The lower one has a very subtle composition- seems very soft. The texture is very engaging. What was your principle? Do you have a favorite?
Both the rose and the fish stands out the most to me. I used gouache paint and went through a trial and error phase. The three large prints fish stencil, rose, and the orange and blue print. in was trying ti see how detailed a person can go with the medium that i was working with. I almost wished i did not have put the printed roses on the the rose. pulled in a faded back ground of some sort to give more depth. overall i would pick the fish first. It has a for ground med ground and a background. the air bubbles gives it a unique texture. on the rose i did not realize the when trying to remove the an air bubble i was smearing the paint. oops.. It worked out fine. The fish shows movement, jumping out of the water. The horizontal lines is giving contrast forming the water and sky. the silhouettes of trees in the background gives the piece depth behind the fish. the trees gives the a medium figure of ground.
These look really nice James. I am especially impressed with the fish print and the rose print. The second to the last print is also interesting, the color scheme looks complementary. I think your craftsmanship is great!
I love your use of color in all of these prints! I think your rose is one of the most successful.
ReplyDeleteVery nice use of line and color... like your fish stencil. Repeating patterns worked well in a few.

ReplyDeleteI really like the colors in these; the fish print is probably my favorite, but the rose is a close second!
